Stand up for Labour - Stevenage, Thursday 28th February, 7:30pm (earlybird tickets)
A fantastic line up headlined by Patrick Monahan
Stand up for Labour holds its first ever show for Stevenage Labour Party and we have three of our best comedians.
Sponsored by the BFAWU, the night takes place at the Stevenage CIU (High Street, Stevenage SG1 3AU) and features:
Sir Ian Bowler is an unlikely inclusion in the line up as he is a Tory politician. His act is that of a panto villain – contemptuous of the poor and people on the left. Surprisingly Sir Ian has gone down a storm at Stand up for Labour events all over the country (Bolton, Maidenhead, Battersea, Manchester, Blackpool, Corby, Preston, Leamington, Ipswich, Bristol, Upton upon Severn, Birmingham, Chiswick, Tottenham, Tooting, London Colney, Uxbridge and Hailsham).
Gráinne Maguire has appeared on BBC1′s “Question Time”, “Daily Politics”, ITV1′s “Agenda”, Comedy Central’s ‘Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience”, BBC 3′s Free Speech, Radio 5 Live’s “Seven Day Sunday” & “Hit List”, Radio 4’s “The Now Show” “Stephen K Amos’ An Idiots Guide” “Front Row” and “Women’s Hour”. She has written for Channel Four’s “Alternative Election Night”, “8 Out of 10 Cats”, “The Last Leg” and Radio 4’s “News Quiz”, “Ayres on Air”, “Listomania” “Dead Ringers”, “Dilemma”, “The Now Show” and “NewsJack” which she also script edits. In 2015, the Newsjack episode she script edited won the Rose D’Or for Best Radio Comedy.
Audience favourite Patrick Monahan blends a high energy comedy style with hilarious and engaging topical and observational material. Known for working a room, Patrick was winner of the 2011 ITV1 series ‘Show Me The Funny’, Patrick has gone on to appear in 'Splash!', 'Celebrity Squares', ‘Comedy Annual’, ‘Daybreak’, ‘Loose Women’ and ‘The Wright Stuff’. He is a former Stand up for Labour Act of the Year and is much loved by Labour audiences.
Hosting this incredible line up is Crispin Flintoff, who set up Stand up for Labour and has now organised over 250 shows in six years. Crispin was once a runner-up at the prestigious Hackney Empire New Acts competition and went on to appear on Paramount Comedy Channel’s ‘The World Stands Up’. He has also appeared on ‘Daily Politics’ and ran the ‘#JC4PM’ variety tour.
Guest speaker on the night is Ian Hodson, the National President of the BFAWU (the Baker's Union). Ian has been instrumental in the success of the McStrikers and is a tireless campaigner for a £10 minimum wage and improved working conditions for all workers.
The night also includes liquid prizes and a raffle and all money raised goes towards Labour's campaign in Stevenage.
