Stand up for Labour - Islington

Islington facebookStand up for Labour's pre-election tour continues with a show in Islington, the home of the country's future Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn and Foreign Secretary, Emily Thornberry.

Taking place at the Williamson Street Community Centre (Trefil Walk, London N7 0SX), close to Holloway Road tube station, the night features four of our favourite performers, liquid prizes, a quiz and plenty of audience participation.

Maddy Carty, a former BRIT school student whose soulful voice and socially conscious lyrics set her apart as a singer/songwriter. Maddy's debut album 'Come and Get it' received rave reviews and support from Radio 1xtra, BBC6 and BBC London among many others. She has supported Norman Jay and Madness at House of Fun Festival, played The Brooklyn Bowl with Maxi Priest and performed at venues such as Ronnie Scott's, The Troubadour and The Scoop for More London Festivals. Her haunting vocals form part of the 2017 General Election reggae single 'Take the Stage'. Was a big hit at Stand up for Labour shows in Covent Garden and Harrow East. You can see a clip of Maddy here.

The Artist Taxi Driver is one of the country's most engaging and prolific video bloggers. His talks to camera in the front of his car have been seen by millions and he was the inspiration behind the Grime single 'Get Shut Down' about Theresa May's Magic Money Tree. He was a speaker at Jeremy Corbyn's first fundraiser in 2015 at The Seven Dials Club and has gone on to speak at Stand up for Labour shows in Brighton, Blackpool, Manchester, Sevenoaks and Chingford (Iain Duncan Smith's constituency). You can see a clip of The Artist Taxi Driver at our Brighton show here.

Don Biswas had a fantastic Edinburgh Festival following a number of years on the comedy circuit. His show, 'Left wing conspiracy theorist with dyspraxia' was not only hilarious but very well received by critics. Don is also an active member of the Labour Party in Wimbledon and has performed at Stand up for Labour shows in Basildon, Maidstone and at the Labour Party Conference. You can see a clip of Don at that show here.

Patrick Monahan blends a high energy comedy style with hilarious and engaging topical and observational material. Known for working a room, Patrick was winner of the 2011 ITV1 series ‘Show Me The Funny’, Patrick has gone on to appear in 'Splash!', 'Celebrity Squares', ‘Comedy Annual’, ‘Daybreak’, ‘Loose Women’ and ‘The Wright Stuff’. He is a former Stand up for Labour Act of the Year and is much loved by Labour audiences. You can see a clip of Patrick Monahan here.

Rob Delaney is a Bafta-awarded actor, writer and comedian, living in Islington, who has offered to perform a set on the night. He co-writes and acts in one of the most popular and hilarious sitcoms of our time, 'Catastophe'. He has recently a stand-up comedy show for Netflix and appears regularly on panel shows, such as 'Have I Got News For You', 'Would I Lie to You', '8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown' and 'Room 101'.
